The Pingtung County Government stated recently that, in order to enhance international tourism friendliness in the Hengchun Peninsula, it has for the first time systematically promoted multilingual guidance measures for commercial areas. Taking the Kenting commercial area as a demonstration site, the initiative assists restaurant operators in improving foreign-language communication environments so that international visitors can understand menus and dish descriptions, thereby enhancing the overall travel experience.
The county government noted that as international visitors gradually return, language has become a key factor influencing travel experiences and spending willingness. This program adopts a “demonstration first, resource sharing” strategy by selecting 12 restaurant operators in the Kenting commercial area for one-on-one guidance. Professional Japanese and Korean menu translation services are provided to help businesses upgrade menus that previously had only Chinese or simple English into multilingual versions with clear content and transparent pricing, reducing consumer uncertainty.
In addition to the demonstration guidance, the county government has also produced a “seven-language standard menu reference template,” covering Chinese, American English, Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, Thai, and Vietnamese. These templates are made available for free reference by commercial area businesses and market vendors to lower translation barriers. The Transportation and Tourism Department stated that the multilingual guidance focuses not only on text translation but also on conveying culinary characteristics and cultural context, allowing international visitors to learn about Taiwan's local food culture through menus. The county government will continue to integrate tourism events and commercial area guidance to help more local businesses enhance their international reception capacity.
