Hualien Mennonite Hospital Propagandas Heat Injury Prevention to Migrant Workers

Labors who work outdoor in the heat are at risk for heat-related illnesses and injuries. Those who lack of understanding of prevention are prone to suffering heat-related ailments. Therefore, Mennonite Hospital in Hualien County has partnered with Southeast Asian students studying in Taiwan to carry out translation and roll out "Multilingual Heat Injury Prevention" in order to reduce the heat-related illnesses for migrant workers.

The Community Health Department at Mennonite Hospital estimates that every year, 700,000 migrant workers from Southeast Asia arrive to Taiwan. They are unable to obtain accurate and comprehensive information because of languages barriers. Through the production of this multilingual health education leaflet, the concept of heat injury is better understood by migrant workers.

Dr. Deng (鄧學儒) from Mennonite Hospital's emergency room also urged migrant workers and businesses who employ them to work outside to pay attention to the environment's comfort, ventilation, and temperature. They should also keep in mind to stay hydrated to avoid heat-related illnesses. Mennonite Hospital produces "Multilingual Heat Injury Prevention” on the avoidance of heat damage in three languages: Vietnamese, Thai, and Indonesian. Mennonite Hospital offers it without charge to the general population.
