A powerful earthquake struck the southern Philippines on June 8, sending strong tremors across Mindanao and prompting tsunami warnings in several countries around the region. The quake occurred near Sarangani Province, with residents reporting intense shaking, damaged buildings, and widespread disruptions to daily life.

According to CNN, the earthquake measured magnitude 7.8 and occurred at a depth of about 35 kilometers. Philippine authorities immediately issued tsunami advisories, while neighboring countries including Indonesia and Japan also monitored potential coastal impacts.

The disaster caused structural damage in multiple communities near the epicenter. Reports indicated power and communication outages in affected areas, while schools were temporarily closed as officials assessed infrastructure safety. Emergency responders were deployed to evaluate damage and assist residents.

Authorities continued to monitor aftershocks and potential tsunami activity throughout the day. Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said national agencies were coordinating response efforts, while disaster management teams urged residents in coastal areas to remain alert and follow evacuation instructions when necessary.
