The Ministry of Education is celebrating International Mother Language Day 2025 by hosting the event "Language is Innate: Hearing the Island Speak" on February 23 at Eslite Spectrum Songyan Store. Through lectures, stage performances, a cultural market, and interactive games, the event aims to promote the daily use and creative expression of mother languages, inviting the public to immerse themselves in diverse linguistic cultures.

Since 1999, the United Nations has designated February 21 as International Mother Language Day. Taiwan has long been dedicated to the revitalization and promotion of national languages. In addition to supporting public libraries and educational institutions across different regions to organize related activities, this year, the Ministry of Education has specially planned a series of mother language promotion events to enhance public awareness.

One of the highlights is the panel discussion titled "The Era of Mother Languages: From Daily Use to Creative Performance," featuring creators from theater and music who will share their experiences in language learning, artistic creation, and the challenges of translating mother languages into performance. Additionally, the "Mother Language Promotion Market" will offer books, learning materials, and hands-on workshops related to language learning. Meanwhile, the "Hearing the Island’s Voices" stage will feature performances of mother tongue songs and theater acts.Taiwanese Hakka host Wen Shikai, Taiwanese Indigenous singer-songwriter Ilid Kaolo, Taiwanese Taiwanese-language theater troupe leader Tsai Ming-Chun, and Taiwanese Hakka singer-songwriter Yeh Ying.
