Museum Interactivity Becomes a Trend:《Nest and Generation》Explores New Possibilities in Games and Cultural Spaces

Published by the National Hsinchu Living Arts Center under the Ministry of Culture, the quarterly Nest and Generation has reached its 17th issue since its launch in April 2021. The magazine continues to explore Taiwan's cultural landscape from diverse perspectives, covering topics such as heritage restoration, regional revitalization, national languages, and culinary culture.

Issue 17 is themed &ldquoBoundless Waves of Play: Exploring Wisdom through Interactive Experiences,&rdquo focusing on how museums are transforming from traditional exhibitions to interactive engagement. According to Yeh Yu-Cheng, Director of the National Hsinchu Living Arts Center, when games enter museums, static displays evolve into open and engaging learning methods. &ldquoLearning has no boundaries, and knowledge should be limitless,&rdquo he said, envisioning a cultural future where &ldquoeverywhere can be a museum.&rdquo

To mark the release of the new issue, the center held a launch event on May 7 at the &ldquoXian Haifeng&rdquo Cultural Base in Yuanli Township, Miaoli. The event served as a warm-up session for the professional course under the &ldquoCultural Corridor of Mountain and Sea&rdquo project. Following the launch, a series of courses featured speakers such as Yuanli Township Mayor Liu Yu-Yu, Liu Yao-Tsung of Zangshan Camellia Workshop, and Hou Shun-Yao, Director of the Center for Community and Hakka Affairs Sustainability at Minghsin University of Science and Technology. They shared insights on local governance, returning to hometown entrepreneurship, community practice, and cultural action&mdashexploring practical paths for multicultural participation.

The event venue, &ldquoXian Haifeng,&rdquo is one of the Ministry of Culture&rsquos first &ldquoTop 100 Cultural Bases.&rdquo It has long promoted eco-friendly agriculture, rush weaving, and in-depth local tours, striving to sustain and revitalize local culture. Through exchanges between cultural practitioners and community partners, the event strengthened ties between culture and daily life, showcasing the diversity of local initiatives.

The 17th issue of Nest and Generation adopts a playful and engaging approach to game design, guiding readers to rediscover the interactive and educational potential of museums. It also explores the possibility of integrating cultural spaces into everyday life.
