According to statistics, approximately 3.6 million people aged 25 to 65 in Taiwan experience hair loss. In addition to hereditary androgenetic alopecia, factors such as air pollution, stress, and poor diet have contributed to the younger onset of baldness. For men with androgenetic alopecia, it often begins with the recession of the frontal hairline, forming an "M-shaped" pattern. Without treatment, it can progress to a "Mediterranean" baldness pattern.

Dr. Yang Ming-Chuan, a hair transplant specialist, pointed out that many people experience follicular inflammation and hair loss due to damp and sweaty helmets or failure to clean hair gel properly. Folk remedies like ginger or contraceptives may cause further harm to the scalp. Hair loss treatment is divided into "symptom-based" and "root-cause" approaches. Symptom-based treatments, such as hair growth tonics and medications, stimulate dormant hair follicle stem cells. However, without addressing the root cause, baldness may still be inevitable. Root-cause treatments involve oral medications that inhibit the metabolism of androgens in hair follicles.

For those with extensive baldness, hair transplant surgery is an effective option. There are two primary techniques: the American FUE method and the Korean technique. The American method uses tweezers to implant follicles, while the Korean method employs a hair transplant pen, requiring more delicate operations to minimize follicle breakage. Post-surgery care follows the "3 don'ts and 4 dos" principles:

  • Don'ts: Avoid staying up late, rubbing the scalp, and eating fried foods.
  • Dos: Keep the scalp moisturized, ensure proper nutrition, use light therapy, and get adequate rest to promote healthy regrowth of transplanted hair.

With proper treatment and daily care, hair loss patients can regain confidence and achieve healthy, beautiful hair.
