A recent hidden camera case at a clinic has raised concerns over privacy and possible video leaks, putting enforcement, site oversight and sales of special filming devices under public scrutiny. The government has asked relevant agencies to strengthen investigations under the Criminal Code, Personal Data Protection Act and Medical Care Act, and to inspect medical, beauty, fitness and lodging venues involving personal privacy.

The Ministry of Justice and National Police Agency have set up a task force to investigate the case, trace illegal filming and prevent video leaks or secondary distribution. Public concern now also centers on whether people can clearly know the purpose and use of recording devices in clinics, changing areas, hotels or beauty services.

For recording devices in public or semi-public spaces, agencies and local governments will step up inspections. If devices are installed for safety or management needs, operators should clearly post notices, inform the public and obtain consent for image collection and use.

The Ministry of Digital Affairs will review how e-commerce platforms sell special filming devices, including sales rules, device flow and management of installation contractors. Whether to require real-name registration still needs further assessment of feasibility and effectiveness.

As the case remains under investigation, whether videos were leaked and where the devices came from still await clarification by prosecutors and police. Authorities will also review site management, device sales and current laws as the basis for future institutional improvements.
