To celebrate World Bicycle Day on June 3, the Northeast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area Administration launched the “2026 Cycling Northeast Coast Low-Carbon Riding Day” series, combining cycling tourism, digital carbon reduction tools, and immersive local travel experiences to encourage environmentally friendly tourism.

The Northeast Coast has long promoted sustainable tourism. Since 2016, it has participated in the Green Destinations certification program and has been recognized among the world's Top 100 Green Destinations for ten consecutive years. The area is also one of the founding members of the Good Travel Alliance, promoting low-carbon tourism through international cooperation.

A major highlight of this year's program is the “Northeast Coast Sustainable Cyclist Badge,” Taiwan's first cycling-based carbon reduction calculation game. Participants who complete the Old Caoling Circular Bicycle Route can calculate their carbon reduction achievements through a digital platform, turning every cycling trip into a measurable environmental contribution.

The administration has also introduced four themed cycling tours that guide visitors through fishing villages, mountain and coastal landscapes, geological attractions, and the scenic beauty of Yilan. Registration for these tours is currently open.

In September, the “Extreme Point Slow Travel” event will invite cyclists to challenge themselves by riding to Sandiaojiao Lighthouse, the easternmost point of Taiwan. The initiative also promotes local spending and sustainable tourism practices.
