Young people are entering communities to learn and participate in local affairs. The Youth Development Administration of the Ministry of Education is connecting youth hubs across Taiwan to hold 40 youth gatherings in communities, rural areas and historic districts. Participants meet local teams, residents and community activists and learn about regional issues through first-hand experience.

Unlike conventional lectures, the gatherings combine local tours, interactive workshops and intergenerational exchange. Participants learn how local teams work in industry, culture and community development, while gaining experience with real local projects and collaboration across different groups.

Events are organized around local issues. In Douliu, Yunlin, San Xiao Creative works with beekeepers, linking women’s entrepreneurship with food and agricultural education and rural work. In Lukang, Changhua, Lukang Nian Zai uses everyday culture to share its local experience and examine the link between traditional culture and youth participation.

In Toucheng, Yilan, Golden Fish Neighborhood focuses on extreme weather and post-disaster recovery, sharing experience in reconstruction and community development. In Yancheng District, Kaohsiung, Thirty-Eight Local Life shows how young people use skills such as design and field research to work with long-established shops and local residents.

The 40 gatherings are opening for registration in stages. The Douliu, Yunlin, event is scheduled for September 11, while events in Lukang, Changhua, and Toucheng, Yilan, will be held on September 19. Details and registration information are available on the official Youth Community Participation Action 2.0 website.
