One of the largest illegal e-cigarette cases in recent years has been uncovered. The Tainan City Government worked with central enforcement authorities to locate a major distribution center in Chiayi, seizing large quantities of e-cigarette devices, vape cartridges and related components valued at more than NT$10 million. The case has been transferred to judicial authorities for investigation.

After a lengthy investigation, authorities identified a large illegal e-cigarette distribution site in Chiayi. Nearly 4,000 e-cigarette devices, more than 9,500 boxes of vape cartridges and numerous assembly components were seized. Some products were found to have unclear origins and were suspected of containing illegal substances, and investigators are tracing their sources and distribution channels.

Authorities said illegal e-cigarettes often attract young people through flavored products and eye-catching packaging, contributing to the emerging drug issue known as "zombie vape cartridges". Because these products are difficult to distinguish from ordinary e-cigarettes, they can circulate more easily through online and private channels.

The Executive Yuan recently announced that Etomidate would be classified as a Schedule I controlled substance, reflecting growing concern over emerging drug issues. Some of the seized products are suspected of containing Etomidate, and their origins and distribution routes remain under investigation.

Authorities will continue anti-drug and anti-smuggling efforts while strengthening public awareness of the risks associated with illegal e-cigarettes and emerging drugs.
