From morning till night, we&rsquore constantly bombarded by stress: the frustration of traffic jams, endless problems at work, and noisy kids after a long day&hellip These negative emotions pile up and make it hard to unwind and fall asleep. While stress may be inevitable, we can learn to manage it in healthy ways. Harvard Medical School professor Herbert Benson shares five pre-sleep relaxation techniques to help the body shift into rest mode and enjoy a good night&rsquos sleep.

★ Diaphragmatic Breathing: Focus on your breath and let go of stress
When we feel tense, our breathing becomes shallow and rapid. Try practicing diaphragmatic breathing: lie down, exhale lightly through your mouth, then slowly inhale through your nose and feel your abdomen expand. Hold your breath for about two seconds, then exhale gently through your mouth. This technique engages the diaphragm, chest, and abdominal cavities to fully relax the body and release stress with each breath, gradually calming your mind.

★ Body Scanning: Relax one body part at a time to release tension
After breathing exercises, do a simple body scan. Focus your attention on different parts of your body one by one, noticing and relaxing the muscles. From the top of your head to your toes, slowly feel each part unwind. This not only relieves physical tension but also deepens the connection between body and mind for holistic relaxation.Just a few minutes of diaphragmatic breathing can help relax muscles and increase awareness of different parts of the body. ★ Warm Bath: Let the magic of a warm soak relax your body and mind
After a tiring day, there&rsquos nothing better than a warm bath. It improves circulation and triggers drowsiness, which can help with insomnia. If you don&rsquot have a bathtub, soaking your hands and feet in warm water can have a similar effect. Add some aromatherapy candles or soft music to enhance the soothing experience.

★ Progressive Muscle Stretching: Relieve tight muscles to improve sleep
Emotional stress often leads to muscle tension, especially in the neck and back, affecting sleep quality. Spend 10 minutes before bed doing progressive stretches to release built-up tension. You can follow YouTube tutorials or seek guidance from a professional. Start with simple neck stretches, move to your back and legs, and let each stretch relax your tired muscles, preparing you for restful sleep.

★ Mindfulness Meditation: Calm your mind as the foundation of restful sleep
Meditation isn&rsquot a mystical ritual-it&rsquos a practical method to maintain mental peace. Through mindfulness, we can stay present, letting go of worries about the past or future, and simply focus on our breath. Today, meditation is increasingly popular, and many apps offer quick beginner sessions. Even five minutes of meditation can ease anxiety and stress, helping you fall asleep faster.Taking a warm bath can relax the body and mind, promote blood circulation, and help relieve insomnia and nightmares.
