Cold noodles may carry Salmonella in hot weather. Taipei City inspected 40 products from traditional shops, convenience store chains, and other retailers, finding 1 noncompliant product. Consumers should eat cold noodles promptly or refrigerate them below 7°C.
The noncompliant "Deluxe Seafood and Meat Assorted Cold Noodles" was sold at Fuda Retail Co., Ltd.'s Shilin Shidong Second Branch. The product, supplied by Hemi International Food Co., Ltd. in Bade District, Taoyuan City, tested positive for Salmonella. The case has been transferred to the competent health authority.
Businesses may be ordered to correct violations within a specified period. Failure to comply may result in a fine ranging from NT$30,000 to NT$3 million.
As ready-to-eat foods without high-temperature sterilization, cold noodles are more susceptible to microbial growth in summer. Businesses must maintain sanitation throughout preparation and sale, while refrigerated products must remain below 7°C. Uneaten products should not be left at room temperature for long periods.
