When in vitro fertilization (IVF) fails, the cost of further treatment can make couples hesitate to try again. From September 1, the Health Promotion Administration will increase subsidies for the 2nd and 3rd treatments by NT$50,000 each, providing more financial support for couples who need further treatment.
The actual subsidy depends on the wife's age. Women under 40 can receive up to NT$150,000 for each 2nd or 3rd treatment, while those aged 40 to under 45 can receive up to NT$130,000. Both amounts are NT$50,000 higher than before.
The subsidy applies to treatments that complete egg retrieval, embryo formation and embryo transfer. If a couple has a first child through IVF and later plans another child, the number and amount of subsidies will be recalculated, so the usage from the previous child does not carry over.
The subsidy is increasingly being used for subsequent family planning. By the end of July 2026, more than 72,000 couples had received IVF subsidies, helping more than 31,000 couples welcome newborns. Under the 3.0 program, the proportion applying for a second or later child was also notably higher than under the 2.0 program.
Couples who need assistance can check eligibility, subsidy amounts and application procedures in the Health Promotion Administration's IVF section, or call the assisted reproduction subsidy hotline at 02-2558-0900.
