Multilingual Bilingual Storybooks and Digital Outreach Bring Gender Equality Education into New Immigrant Communities

Extending gender equality education beyond classrooms into multicultural communities has become a focus in higher education. From academic year 111 to 114, the Ministry of Education has supported universities through a curriculum development and promotion strategy project, encouraging innovative teaching materials aligned with institutional strengths.

Wenzao Ursuline University leveraged its language expertise to develop bilingual storybooks and advocacy materials in Indonesian, Thai, and Vietnamese. In year 111, Indonesian–Chinese storybooks were created and applied in educational settings for children of new immigrants, enhancing students’ reflection on gender stereotypes and women’s autonomy.

In year 112, the program expanded to Thai–Chinese translations and advocacy videos, incorporating gender issues faced by migrant workers and promoting them via YouTube. In year 113, Vietnamese–Chinese materials were further developed, with evaluations showing increased empathy toward new immigrant women.

By year 114, multilingual advocacy videos were produced and promoted on campus and in community venues such as the Kaohsiung New Immigrant Center. Materials were uploaded to digital platforms to expand access and sustainability. The Ministry of Education emphasized the need for long-term commitment integrating research, curriculum innovation, and social practice.
