Hu Shu Fen mentions, many new immigrants were often neglected because of language barriers and being a cultural minority in Taiwan society. Hu has held many Chinese courses and volunteer training for many new immigrant single mothers.
Hu says that if the new immigrants enhance their Mandarin ability, they can express their needs more easily to the public.
Hu Shu Fen then says the children of new immigrants have filmed videos sharing their mother’s hometown stories. In 2016, Hu conducted a New Immigrant family film festival. The festival hopes through the videos, the public is able to learn and understand the Southeast Asian cultures.
Hu Shu Fen thinks that to be a social worker, one has to take a lot of responsibility. The social worker often faces people from different countries with different personalities. Hu says that she will always keep a loving heart and keep on trying her best in her job.
