When people purchase insurance, it is to prevent unforeseen events and reduce risks, providing protection for themselves and their families. However, as fraud schemes evolve, policyholders with savings or investment insurance have become prime targets for scammers.
A common tactic is to lure victims into investment groups by promising high returns, low risk, and guaranteed profits. Fraudsters then persuade victims to cancel their policies for cash or pledge their policies for loans, ultimately wiping out their life savings. Some victims have even resorted to suicide as a result.
To strengthen anti-fraud efforts, Nan Shan Life Insurance has developed the "Golden Eye AI Anti-Fraud" model. By sharing resources with the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB), analyzing customer behavior, profiling policyholders and policy data, and incorporating frontline service assessments, this AI model assigns fraud risk levels. Based on these assessments, appropriate care and preventive measures are taken to lower the risk of fraud and protect customers&rsquo assets.
For example, when processing policy loans at counters, frontline staff can instantly access the customer&rsquos risk level via the AI model. If the system indicates medium or high risk (yellow or red light), staff will follow specific procedures, including inquiring whether the loan will be handed over to third parties or contacting family members for confirmation. Even when a low-risk green light appears, staff still observe customer behavior for signs of potential fraud.
Since the CIB and Nan Shan Life Insurance signed their anti-fraud cooperation agreement on September 16, 2024, several joint measures have been implemented, such as analyzing customer interactions with the 165 Anti-Fraud Hotline. So far, the model has successfully prevented 5 cases, saving approximately NT$4 million.
The CIB will continue working with Nan Shan Life Insurance to launch more anti-fraud initiatives, protecting public assets and creating a safer financial environment.
