Yilan County Government and the Community Care Association holds "Life Adaptation Classes" to help new immigrants integrate into Taiwan society

There are about 12,000 new immigrants and second generation new immigrants in Yilan County, accounting for about 2.6% of the county's population. To help them adapt to life in Taiwan, the Yilan County Government (宜蘭縣政府) has specially planned the "Motorcycle Examination Class" (機車考照班) and the "Food Happiness Class" (食在幸福班), a 60-hour life adaptation counseling course for new immigrants for one month. County Mayor Lin Tzu-Miao (林姿妙) said that Taiwan is an international country and ethnic integration is very important. The "new" friends are welcome to come to Yilan. We are all one family regardless of country or ethnicity.

Yilan County Government entrusted Yi Hsuan Maternal and Child Care Association (宜萱婦幼關懷協會) to organize the new immigrants’ life adaptation counseling classes, with vehicle license examination classes to assist new immigrants and second-generation new immigrants to obtain vehicle driving licenses and with the food happiness class where the main objective is to learn about traditional markets, hypermarkets, local food ingredients, and to eat local and to eat in season. The Food Happiness Class integrates Taiwan's market culture in the form of parent-child song and dance programs, allowing the children of new immigrants to learn the local dialect and local customs through education and fun, and promote parent-child bonding.

The students of the New Immigrants’ Life Adaptation Classes came from the United States, South Africa, Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines. The Yilan County Government held a special cultural sharing and presentation of results. The new immigrants presented a wonderful song and dance drama, "An Tong Brother Buying Vegetables." The county Mayor Lin Tsu-Miao and his new immigrants made DIY special delicacies, Vietnamese spring rolls with Yilan local duck meat, night market food dipped in Thai sauces, and other delicacies from Taiwan, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
