The Directorate-General of Personnel Administration has announced the 2026 (ROC Year 115) official government work calendar. The year will feature 9 long weekends of three days or more and 11 national holidays, bringing the total number of days off to 120. The Lunar New Year holiday, running from February 14 to February 22, will last 9 days and be the longest break of the year.
Under the 2026 holiday schedule, the Children's Day and Tomb-Sweeping Day holidays will be combined into a four-day break, as will the Mid-Autumn Festival and Teachers' Day. Other holidays, including the 228 Peace Memorial Day, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, National Day, Retrocession Day, and Constitution Day, will mostly form three-day weekends. The authority also noted that, following regulatory revisions, the make-up workday system was abolished in the second half of 2025, meaning there will be no make-up workdays in 2026.
With increased flexibility in leave arrangements, many people will be able to extend their breaks by taking additional days off. According to the plan, combining annual leave with the Lunar New Year and 228 holidays could result in up to 16 consecutive days off. The public is advised to plan vacations, transportation, and travel early.
