The president said on November 27 that Taiwan has officially entered a super aged society. With the rapid growth of the elderly population, the long term care system faces new structural challenges. To respond to these changes, the government will advance the launch of Long Term Care 3.0 next year, aiming to strengthen care capacity for the coming decade.

The government noted that while service sites, caregiving workforce and overall capacity have expanded significantly under previous long term care programs, further adjustments are needed as population aging continues. Long Term Care 3.0 will be people centered and community based, promoting healthy aging and aging in place while improving continuity through better integration of medical and care services.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare said that accelerating post discharge care connection is a key target of Long Term Care 3.0. Measures will strengthen discharge preparation mechanisms and shorten waiting time between hospital discharge and care services. The goal is to achieve connection within two days by 2026 and move toward same day care by 2030, while expanding service coverage to ease family caregiving pressure.
