When children speak later than their peers, experience frequent emotional outbursts, or are often reminded at school that they cannot sit still, many parents begin to worry about their child's development. Statistics from Taipei City show that there are currently about 107,931 children aged 0 to under 6. Among them, 3,173 have received developmental evaluations, and 2,278 were diagnosed with developmental delays, representing a prevalence rate of about 2.11%. These numbers reflect that many families have gone through a period of observation, evaluation, and seeking support during their children's growth.

Every child develops at their own pace. However, if there are clear delays in language, motor skills, cognition, or social interaction, early evaluation can help clarify the situation. After developmental assessment, children may receive speech therapy, occupational therapy, or physical therapy depending on their needs. Practice can also be incorporated into daily life, allowing parents and therapists to accompany children step by step as they grow and improve.

Currently, 86 primary healthcare institutions in Taipei have joined the early intervention public health medical network, allowing families to find consultation and referral resources within their communities. In addition, 20 evaluation centers or hospitals provide diagnosis and therapy services, reducing the burden of traveling back and forth for families.

To provide more practical support for families, starting in 2026, parent-child workshops have expanded to 10 medical institutions, with a total of 32 sessions planned throughout the year. The program targets families with children aged 1.5 to 6 who experience developmental delays. Through games and situational practice, parents learn how to guide and support their children in everyday life while also gaining a space for communication and mutual support. More information can be obtained from the Taipei City Department of Health (02-27287084) or through its official website. When developmental challenges arise, making use of available resources can often bring reassurance to the entire family.
