Sudden cardiac arrest often occurs without warning, and failure to respond promptly may lead to irreversible consequences. Medical studies show that performing CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) within 4 to 6 minutes and using an AED (automated external defibrillator) can significantly increase a patient's chances of survival. To enhance citizens' ability to respond to emergencies, the Tainan City Government Health Bureau urges the public to familiarize themselves with the locations and usage of AEDs in advance, so they can take action when it matters most.
As society continues to age, the accessibility of public emergency medical resources has become increasingly important. According to the latest regulations issued by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the range of public places required to install AEDs has been expanded to include transportation hubs such as Taiwan Railways stations, MRT stations, and bus terminals; tourist areas; large shopping centers; sports venues; cinemas; religious sites; as well as public service units such as police precincts and stations, gradually forming a more comprehensive urban emergency response network.
The Tainan City Government Health Bureau noted that many people hesitate to act during emergencies due to panic. In fact, AED operation is highly intuitive, and users only need to follow voice prompts and visual instructions. By accessing the “Public AED Emergency Information Network” and using the online map function, citizens can quickly locate nearby AEDs by city, district, or even within a 500-meter radius, along with detailed addresses, enabling rapid access to the equipment at the critical moment.
In addition to locating equipment, the Health Bureau encourages citizens to prepare in advance. The website includes an education and training section that provides CPR and AED instructional videos, which are concise and easy to understand, allowing the general public to learn at any time. The Health Bureau emphasized that better preparation leads to better outcomes in emergencies and urged citizens to search for AED locations near their homes or workplaces now, so they can help protect lives when needed.
