On August 4, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 21 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 21 new cases, 20 are domestic and the other one is imported. The CECC reported no deaths today.

The CECC pointed out that of the 20 domestic cases (of whom, 16 tested positive while they were in home isolation or completed their isolation period), 9 are men and the other 11 are women, aged between 20 to 79 years old. They began to suffer the onset of symptoms between July 24 and August 3, 2021. Regarding those domestic cases, New Taipei City reported the most cases, at 14, and Taipei City had the second highest number, at 5. Taoyuan City reported 1 case.

Regarding the new imported case, Case #15850 is a Japanese female in her teens. She traveled to Taiwan from Japan for studies on August 2. She was tested for COVID-19 at the airport, and infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on August 4.

The CECC reported that a total of 2,128,419 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 2,111,269. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 15,742 cases. Of the 15,742 confirmed cases, 1,275 are imported; 14,414 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 108 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 791 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 791 deaths, 783 are from domestic cases and the other 8 are from imported cases.
