As the global population continues to age, how to slow down aging and extend healthy lifespan has become an important issue. A recent study published in the journal Nature Aging pointed out that Omega-3 fatty acids can effectively slow biological aging and reduce health risks associated with aging, bringing groundbreaking discoveries to the medical field.

The study, led by clinical scientist Heike Bischoff-Ferrari from the University of Zurich and renowned British anti-aging expert Steve Horvath, analyzed data from the DO-HEALTH trial conducted between 2012 and 2014 across five European countries (Switzerland, Germany, France, Austria, and Portugal). The study observed 777 healthy seniors aged 70 and above, who were given vitamin D (2000 IU/day), Omega-3 (1g/day), and home-based exercise (SHEP) three times a week for 30 minutes each session, and tracked their health status over a period of 3 years.

Study Confirms Omega-3 Can Slow Aging Clock
The study used four advanced epigenetic aging clocks (PhenoAge, GrimAge, GrimAge2, and DunedinPACE) to evaluate aging speed. Results showed that Omega-3 supplementation alone effectively slowed down the aging pace in three of the biological age markers, especially among seniors with lower Omega-3 concentrations. In addition, the study found that Omega-3 fatty acids regulate blood proteins related to metabolism and inflammation, exerting positive effects on physical health.A study published in Nature AgingA study published in Nature Aging

5 Anti-Aging Strategies to Help Delay Aging
Anti-aging expert Yi-Yi Qin pointed out that delaying aging should be approached from multiple angles. The following five strategies have been proven by studies to positively support healthy longevity:

  • Intermittent Fasting
Restricting calorie intake can effectively delay aging, improve sugar and fat metabolism, promote cellular autophagy, and reduce oxidative stress and inflammation.
  • Regular Exercise
Engaging in at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week (such as swimming, brisk walking, or yoga) can reduce cardiovascular disease risks and maintain muscle and bone health.
  • Mediterranean Diet
Rich in fresh vegetables and fruits, legumes, nuts, and omega-3-rich fish, the diet helps slow cellular aging and extends healthy lifespan.
  • Good Sleep Quality
Sleeping 7&ndash9 hours of quality sleep each night can help with cell repair, maintain telomere length, and reduce the risk of brain aging.
  • Avoid Smoking and Alcohol
Smoking accelerates biological aging and increases the risk of chronic inflammation, while long-term excessive alcohol consumption can lead to oxidative stress and various health problems. It's recommended to quit smoking and drink in moderation.

Qin Weiyi emphasized that anti-aging strategies should take an integrated approach. Combining a healthy diet, regular exercise, adequate sleep, and supplements such as Omega-3 can effectively slow down aging and improve overall health, ultimately achieving the goal of healthy longevity.
