Foreign Professor Fosters NHU Students' Global Visions
The 21st century has marked by frequent international movements. Not only do college students embrace new knowledge and culture in the international community, but more and more foreign professors think highly of Taiwan's potentials. To cultivate students' international competitiveness, Nanhua University in Chiayi recruited four foreign professors, invited two visiting professors from the US and India to lecture at the first semester of Academic Year 108, and operated the " Have a formal dinner with foreign professors and the president" at the end of the semester.
Because Professor Gorden's father used to learn Chinese for one year in the 1950s at the National Taiwan Normal University, Professor Gorden, from Shepherd University of the State of West Virginia in the US, felt honored to be a visiting professor teaching Asian Culture and Western Literature at the Nanhua University. In just one semester, many students were quite happy to learn from Professor Gorden and hoped to have an opportunity to be an exchange student at Shepherd University in the US. Dr. George Holloway, from the UK, served as the lecturer at the Department of Ethnomusicology and speaks Chinese fluently. He is not only good at music research and teaching but proficient in composing, arranging, conducting, chorusing, opera, and chamber music. He even won second place in the International Composers Competition.
Former President of Kalinga Institute of Information Technology(KIIT) in India, Dr. Satyendra Patnaik, specializes in history, culture, and tourism, has published 9 publications on the history of Indian Buddhism culture and Indian culture and more than 30 academic papers. KIIT is famous for its engineering technology in India and signed an academic cooperation agreement with Nanhua University when Dr. Satyendra Patnaik served as the president. Two schools have a close relationship and have recommended many outstanding students to come to Nanhua University for short-term exchanges. The result of the cooperation is fruitful and received a great response from Indian students after going back to India.
President of Nanhua University, Lin Zhiming, states that he looks forward to deeper cooperation and exchanges with Shepherd University and KIIT in the future. Not only will Nanhua be put out in the world but the world will go into Nanhua. Nanhua students will also keep a foothold in Taiwan, broaden their global visions, and be built with international competitiveness.
