Free Learning Chinese Course for Migrant Workers in Taichung
To assist migrant workers in adapting to Taiwan, the Labor Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government has continued handling free Chinese courses. This year, the first stage of Chinese courses for Vietnamese and Indonesians will start on Feb. 9, and from now on, registrations have been accepted. Labor Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government welcomes all migrant workers to join and calls on employers to encourage their foreign employees to participate in the courses.
Director of the Labor Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government, Wu Weizhi, states that migrant workers coming to Taiwan often encounter difficulties of language barriers or misunderstanding; hence, the city government has promoted language courses for migrant workers to learn Chinese, to improve the relationships between employers and workers, and to help them expand their living spheres.
Director Wu points out that owing to the great registrations in 2018 and 2019, this year, in response to employers' and migrant workers' demands, 10 more courses have been added. Employers and migrant workers are welcome to make good use of the resources, and the Labor Affairs Bureau has also planned other advanced courses. Labor Affairs Bureau states that free Chinese courses offered by the city government are themed with life adding Chinese songs teaching and conversations practices for migrant workers to have simple conversations in Chinese and to better understand matters needing attention in work and life in Taiwan.
