According to TravelKing, the Lantern Festival is celebrated annually on the 15th day of the first lunar month to mark the grand finale of the Chinese New Year celebrations. The festival is celebrated with fanfare events in Taiwan, including Bombing Lord Han Dan.
Bombing Lord Han Dan is a special ceremony, which a chosen man performs in the role of Master Han Dan-a god of wealth, and gets thrown by firecrackers.
During the event, the chosen man wears nothing but a pair of red short pants, holds one bamboo fan to protect his face, stands on a sedan chair, and being carried around by four devotees.
Firecrackers are to be thrown at the chosen one as it is believed that Lord Han Dan cannot bear the cold weather. The firecrackers are to keep him warm as well as to pray for wealth and prosperities.
Bombing Lord Han Dan is an Internationally recognized Festival. However, few people know that the Bombing Lord Han Dan festival originated at the Jhunan Jhonggang Cihyu temple (竹南中港慈裕宮) in Miaoli County 100 years ago.
Since the Bombing Lord Han Dan tradition started in the Jhunan township, the Cihyu temple has been launching many Bombing Lord Han Dan related activities in the past few years. This time, the temple conducted a “Bombing Lord Han Dan Little Warrior Camp” (炮震邯鄲小小勇士體驗營), to provide a chance for children to experience the Bombing Lord Han Dan traditions. The temple hopes to keep the Bombing Lord Han Dan tradition and help children learn their hometown tradition. Therefore,
The “Bombing Lord Han Dan Little Warrior Camp” includes activities such as warrior challenge activities, a 4D tunnel experience, and Lord Han Dan pilgrimage. The activities are very popular. Tickets are often sold out immediately.
The 2021 Bombing Lord Han Dan Little Warrior Camp will be held on April 17 and April 18. The reporter of NIA Global News interviewed Chen Jin-long, a cultural and historical worker in Jhunan township. Mr. Chen has been promoting the local culture in the Jhunan township, he is one of the promoters of the Bombing Lord Han Dan activity.
Mr. Chen mentions there are many new immigrants in the Zhunan area of Miaoli. Together with his Vietnamese wife, they often recommend the Bombing Lord Han Dan activity to other Vietnamese new immigrants in Taiwan.
Every year, many new immigrants would sign up for the activity for their children.
The Bombing Lord Han Dan Little Warrior Camp will arrange a train to take the children on a ride around the Jhunan Jhonggang city area. The organizers will set up different tasks among different stores on the way for children. After completing the task, children will receive gifts from the store owners.
And to let the children experience the excitement of the firecracker bombing of Handan during the festival, the camp 4D tunnel simulates the scene of the Handan bombing. With rich sound and light effects, people can experience being thrown by firecrackers.
