2020-08-09 06:50

Taiwan’s National Immigration Agency (NIA) has posted the up-to-date rules for those wishing to visit Taiwan amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Taiwanese nationals

A 14-day period of home quarantine is required for any Taiwanese returning from a foreign country.

Hong Kong and Macao residents

Hong Kong and Macao residents with valid Taiwan resident visas and students approved by the MOE should quarantine themselves for 14 days upon entry.

Eligible Hong Kong and Macao residents with Taiwan entry permits must provide a certificate showing a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test result issued within three days of their flight. They are still required to quarantine themselves for 14 days.

International medical personnel approved by the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) must also provide proof of a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test result issued within three days of their flight. They must undergo the mandatory 14-day-quarantine after entering the country.

Chinese nationals

Chinese nationals with valid Taiwan resident visas, including Chinese spouses of Taiwanese nationals or Chinese children of Taiwanese nationals under the age of two, are required to quarantine themselves for 14 days after entering Taiwan.

Graduating Chinese students with permission from the Ministry of Education (MOE) must quarantine themselves for 14 days after entering Taiwan.

International medical personnel approved by the MOHW are required to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test result issued within three days prior of their departure. The mandatory 14-day quarantine also applies to them.

Other foreigner nationals

Foreigners with Alien Resident Certificates (ARC) and students with permission from the MOE can travel to Taiwan, but they must quarantine themselves for 14 days upon entry.

Certain foreigners without ARCs are being permitted to enter Taiwan, including those who need to come to carry out diplomatic duties or fulfill contractual obligations, but they must provide a certificate showing a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test result issued within three days of their departure. They are also required to undergo a 14-day quarantine after entering the country.
