New Taipei Labor Dept. finishes 3-day guidance to avoid infections among foreign workers
As the Covid-19 cases continue to surge, and clusters of infection occurred at migrant workers' dormitories in Singapore, New Taipei City Government underwent the 46th emergency response conference on April 23. Mayor Hou You-yi has instructed the Labor Affairs Department to ask employers and migrant workers to keep a distance and build correct disease control concepts. He also said he will undergo random inspections. If violated, proper punishment will be made.
Director of the Labor Affairs Department, Chen Ruijia (陳瑞嘉), said there are 39 enterprises that employ more than 100 migrant workers in New Taipei City. The department will be guiding employers to carry out disease control measures control within three days. The division chief of the Foreign Labor Division, Liao Wuhui (廖武輝), led a team to carry out inspections at Panasonic Taiwan (台灣松下電器)and the Unitech (燿華電子). The personnel of the Foreign Labor Division also visited migrant workers' dormitories and distributed multilingual health education fliers, publicizing handwashing, wearing a mask, and social distancing.
Director Chen Ruijia (陳瑞嘉) said during the 46th emergency response conference of New Taipei City, the city held a forum for brokerage issues in early March, suggesting that the central government should issue masks at airports, and the central government has adopted it. During this period, apart from telephone care for 344 migrant workers who were conducting home quarantine, the Labor Affairs Department also publicized disease control measures at 240 stores where migrant workers often gather. Since last week, it has also promoted social distancing at train and MRT stations on weekends to avoid the virus spreading.
