MOL issues electronic work permit for foreign students to secure rights
The electronic work permit for foreign students, overseas Chinese students, and ethnic Chinese students has recently launched by the Ministry of Labor (MOL) for them to apply for work permits online. They only need to fill out their information on the "EZ work permit" (https://ezwp.wda.gov.tw) and consent to receive an electronic version of the work permit, and then they will be able to access their permits online and print them out.
Director of the Labor Affairs Bureau of Taichung City, Wu Weizhi, states that work permits are valid for 6 months, students need to re-apply if their permits are overdue, and the maximum penalty for employing an international student without a work permit is NT$750,000 (US$24,977). He also calls on employers to implement the principle that employees should display his or her personal information with a QR code that can be used by employers as a means of electronic verification. Besides, employers have to scan the QRcode on students' work permits, confirm that the website address is "EZ work permit", and verify their double documents, including passports, residence permits, and student IDs. Moreover, employers need to check the validity of their work permits through the Ministry of Labor's " Foreign Labor Searching System" (https://labor.wda.gov.tw/labweb/) and download the "Bureau of Labor Insurance E-Service" App to confirm relevant information of students' work permits.
The Labor Affairs Bureau of Taichung City states that the "work permit for foreign students, overseas Chinese students, and ethnic Chinese students" issued in 2019 is still valid until March. 31 in 2020. From Apr. 1 in 2020, the electronic version will be fully adopted. If employers or students have relevant questions, please contact the Ministry of Labor (02-23801808), or call 04-22289111 ext. 35500 (Foreign Worker Service Office, Department of Labor, Taichung City Government).
