According to TAIWAN TODAY, the largest single land-based solar power plant in Taiwan commenced operation March 31 in the southern city of Tainan, spotlighting the government’s commitment to achieving sustainable development through green energy.
During the opening ceremony, Premier Su Tseng-chang said the newly inaugurated plant is a testament to the country’s technological prowess. The total amount of electricity produced at the country’s renewable energy sites is now capable of exceeding the amount created by three nuclear power generators, he added.

TAIWAN TODAY mentions, the plant is expected to generate 200 million kilowatt-hours of green electricity every year, providing enough power to meet the needs of more than 50,000 households.
Over 480,000 high-efficiency solar panels were used in the construction of the plant, Taipower said. An ecological pond was also included in the design to create a habitat for local wildlife including several rare bird species, it added.
Green energy is an essential component of the six core strategic industries unveiled by President Tsai Ing-wen during her 2020 inauguration. The other key areas targeted for growth are the information and digital technology, cybersecurity, biotech and medical technology, national defense, and strategic stockpile industries.
