New Taipei celebrates Austronesian Cultural Festival
New Taipei City, for the very first time, hosted the 2020 Austronesian Cultural Festival recently, with performances and activities to celebrate the cultures of indigenous peoples.
Many indigenous peoples have been living in New Taipei's Wulai District, Sanying District, Tucheng District, Shulin District, and Ruifang District over the past ten years. The 2020 New Taipei City Austronesian Cultural Festival echoed such a characteristic cultural background of theses districts that reserve both the indigenous cultures and urban lifestyles, presenting colorful and exotic beauty of the city, Director of New Taipei Cultural Affairs Department, Gong Yawen (龔雅雯), stated.
The Austronesian Cultural Festival is currently the only celebration event themed with Austronesia. The festival has not only received many warm responses from different groups of people but encouraged citizens to make Taiwan's cultural diversity seen, Deputy Mayor of New Taipei City, Wu Mingji (吳明機), said.
