New Taipei City's language courses for new immigrants hit highest record of Taiwan
New immigrant language courses have been included in the 108th Curriculum Guideline for two years. The Education Department of New Taipei City Government has completed the 109th guideline and 700 new immigrant language courses. Recently, the city government held an orientation training for new immigrant teaching staff from Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Malaysia, and the Phillippines, with a total of 148 teachers joining.
The 109th Curriculum Guideline will launch 613 new immigrant language courses for 1, 742 students. Additionally, New Taipei City Government has launched 90 classes for non-applicable grades. In total, 700 new immigrant language courses have been launched in New Taipei City, New Taipei City Education Department stated.
Ding Anni (丁安妮), who teaches Indonesian at Beixin Elementary School, said new immigrant language courses of New Taipei City are not limited to the new curriculum guideline. Many parents have witnessed how their children practiced Indonesian and expected them to continue to sharpen their language skills in middle school. Lu Xiaozhao (呂曉昭), who teaches Thai, shared that in recent years, learning new immigrant languages is not limited to second-generation children anymore. Some other parents also value Southeast Asian cultures and encourage their children to learn new immigrant languages.
