National level 3 alert extended until June 14

The national level 3 Covid alert will be extended until June 4 in Taiwan.

According to The China Post, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC, 中央流行疫情指揮中心) on May 25 extended Taiwan’s epidemic warning to Level 3 nationwide until June 14.

Speaking at a daily press briefing, Health Minister Chen Shih-chung (陳時中) said that all schools as well as public venues and business places, except for government offices and those that provide essential services, such as medical care, will remain closed until mid-June.

1. Parent services: According to TAIPEI TIMES, During the extended period, parents of children under the age of 12 or children with a disability would continue to be eligible for “disease prevention childcare leave. For students below the high-school level whose parents are unable to take care of them at home, or students who are unable to engage in distance learning at home, schools would continue to arrange staff to enable them to study at school throughout the extension. It would also continue to provide meals to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are learning online at home.

2. In-person graduation ceremony cancelled：TAIPEI TIMES mentions, to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, schools at all levels have been asked to cancel their graduation ceremonies. If a school must hold a graduation ceremony, the event should be done virtually.

3. Comprehensive Assessment Program held on June 5 and 6：TAIPEI TIMES says makeup exams for the Comprehensive Assessment Program for Junior High School Students would still be held on June 5 and 6.

4. Expansion of online education resources：According to Taipei News, online teaching and learning auxiliary resources include unit learning resources for various courses on the YouTube channels com and DeltaMOOCx. The resources cover subjects such as high school mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and earth sciences. More information can be found on the MOE online teaching website or online teaching Facebook page.
5. Exit exams, final exams and makeup exams for students：TAIPEI TIMESsays schools should find alternative ways to administer exit exams, final exams and makeup exams to students in the sixth, ninth and 12th grades,

6. Flexible policies for workers and teachers：TAIPEI TIMES adds teachers and employees can apply for flexible policies, including letting people work from home, to allow employees with young children to manage their professional and childcare responsibilities.
