Zou mentioned that the clinic that she is serving is located in an industrial zone. This is therefore she met many migrant workers from the Philippines there. She observed that many of them could not obtain the full information about the services due to language barriers. Hence, she took the initiative to learn Filipino from her mother ever since then. Now she is like a friend of theirs because they speak the same language.
“Take the medicine three times a day, once in the morning, once in the afternoon, once in the evening”, she said in fluent Filipino. Migrant patients are full of surprises when they heard it and they highly praised Zou for her Filipino speaking proficiency, and she would confidently respond by saying "My mother is from the Philippines."
