(Taiwan Immigrants’ Global News Network) – Korean YouTuber Youjing (有璟) is from Daegu (大邱). When she came to Taiwan to study, she started a YouTube channel. At first, she ran it with a good friend, but later she ran the channel by herself. While she was a student, she started shooting videos about Taiwan’s food and culture, among which food is the theme most loved by the audience. In this episode of "New Immigrants in Taiwan", South Korean YouTuber Youjing will go to his Taiwanese friend's hometown in Chungli, Taoyuan to celebrate the New Year in 2021 to experience how Taiwanese families celebrate the Lunar New Year.

On New Year's Eve, Youjing had New Year's Eve dinner with her friend’s family. The dishes included longevity vegetables, sweet and sour fish, braised lion head meatballs and many other dishes. Mullet roe often appears in Taiwanese New Year dishes. Youjing’s friend’s family eats it together with pear, so the taste is refreshing and delicious. Youjing also knew that Taiwanese people would pick up their bowls when they were eating New Year's Eve dinner, and Youjing also followed the custom as they dined together.

After dinner, Youjing played games, watched TV, and had late-night snacks with her Taiwanese friend and her family. These are common activities on New Year's Eve in Taiwan. Youjing was touched when she received a red envelope for the first time from her friend’s mother.

On New Year’s Day, Taiwanese people have the custom of praying for the new year. Youjing and her Taiwanese friends also went to the nearby temple of the God of the Land to worship, and the staff at the temple also taught Youjing how to pray. This was her first time to learn the proper way to worship. Next, Youjing also joined the family barbecue activities, wherein they also added Korean kimchi and lettuce to the barbecue to experience Korean barbecue.

Youjing finally said that although she was unable to return to her hometown, this time she had eaten a lot of Chinese New Year delicacies with her Taiwanese friends, and experienced Chinese New Year in Taiwan. This was her first time to experience this, and she was very happy.
