On New Year's Eve, Youjing had New Year's Eve dinner with her friend’s family. The dishes included longevity vegetables, sweet and sour fish, braised lion head meatballs and many other dishes. Mullet roe often appears in Taiwanese New Year dishes. Youjing’s friend’s family eats it together with pear, so the taste is refreshing and delicious. Youjing also knew that Taiwanese people would pick up their bowls when they were eating New Year's Eve dinner, and Youjing also followed the custom as they dined together.
After dinner, Youjing played games, watched TV, and had late-night snacks with her Taiwanese friend and her family. These are common activities on New Year's Eve in Taiwan. Youjing was touched when she received a red envelope for the first time from her friend’s mother.

On New Year’s Day, Taiwanese people have the custom of praying for the new year. Youjing and her Taiwanese friends also went to the nearby temple of the God of the Land to worship, and the staff at the temple also taught Youjing how to pray. This was her first time to learn the proper way to worship. Next, Youjing also joined the family barbecue activities, wherein they also added Korean kimchi and lettuce to the barbecue to experience Korean barbecue.
