Zhang Yi Hui and her family emigrated to Myanmar from Yunnan (雲南) when she was young. She said that Myanmar is a country rich in natural resources., and the most famous ones are gems, jade, as well as Bagan - an internationally renowned historical site. 80% of the local people believe in Buddhism.

Zhang mentioned that she met her husband in Taiwan and decided to reside in Baoshan Township, Hsinchu County after getting married.

She said that Baoshan is like her hometown in Myanmar, a place full of mountains and rivers. In Baoshan, the most famous specialties are brown sugar, bamboo shoots, and citrus. Besides, there is a famous attraction “Twin Well”, and it is usually visited by couples who wish to have twin babies.

“I found that many Taiwanese are quite curious about Myanmar,” Zhang says. “Therefore, I started to contact the Hsinchu County New Immigrants Family Service Center and participate in multicultural promotion activities, wishing to let more people understand Myanmar cultures.”

In addition, she has also joined the “2021 Migrants Day in Hsinchu County” and promoted the gourmet food from Myanmar at the booth set by her, selling cold rice noodles (涼拌米線), Golden Triangle (金三角), coconut milk jelly (椰奶凍), Pao Lu Da (泡魯達), and pea crackers (碗豆酥). She said that as long as she sets up a stall in any event, she will bring the whole family to the market to promote Myanmar’s food, culture, and delicacies.

This year, Zhang also participated in the "Passing on the love" project" organized by the Ministry of Culture. This is the first time she has jointly proposed a proposal with her partners, mainly organizing cultural activities in the community. It is hoped that she can help more new immigrants in learning something new, share the characteristics of their hometown, and let people in Taiwan know about the culture of her home country.
