CECC maintains a Level 2 epidemic alert, and the Minister of Transportation and Communication (MOTC) Wang Guo Cai (王國材) announced at the press conference that they decided to loosen regulations of eating and drinking at transit stations. Besides, non-reserved seats and standing-room-only tickets of Taiwan High Speed Rail will be available from November 8.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) has announced on October 5 to amend the regulations of the "Epidemic Prevention Management Measures for Food and beverage industry", loosening relevant dining restrictions. Following the epidemic prevention measures and considering the needs of passengers, MOTC has loosened restrictions for public transportation areas as follows:

  1. Bus Transit Stations: Eating and drinking are allowed from October 19, 2021.
  2. Sea and Air Terminals: Eating and drinking are allowed from October 19, 2021 for domestic terminals;Eating and drinking are allowed from October 19, 2021 for international departure halls. However, for passengers entering Taiwan at arrival halls, the passing routes will be strictly controlled and rerouted. Passengers need to follow the direction boards to leave and drinking and eating are prohibited inside the halls whereas they can eat and drink at the rest of the places.
  3. Food and beverage services in traffic stations: Business operators should strictly follow the "Epidemic Prevention Management Measures for Food and beverage industry" announced by the MOHW. Passengers should maintain social distance from strangers (1.5 meters indoors; 1 meter outdoors) or create separated dining spaces.

  • Taiwan High Speed Rail will open non-reserved seats on November 8. The relevant measures are as follows
  1. Non-reserved seats are generally available for 3 cars (10th car and 12th car). During peak hours, it is planned to provide 4 to 8 cars for non-reserved seats and number of cars will be reviewed and adjusted by rolling-wave planning.
  2. Besides the increase in the number of non-reserved seats, high speed rail will run more often according to passengers’ needs. In addition, if it is too crowded, necessary measures will be implemented or the crowds will be cleared timely.

To follow epidemic prevention measures, the MOTC will supervise various government agencies to implement environmental cleaning, disinfection, food and beverage industry management, regular and unscheduled inspections to the health and safety of passengers. MOTC will also cooperate with Central Epidemic Command Center to adjust and respond to the epidemic situation at any time.
