Chairman Su Wen-shan of the Shilin Night Market Self-Governing Association stated during his speech that Shilin Night Market is one of Taipei City's oldest night markets.
The large number of visitors and merchants, according to Shilin Night Market International Tourism Development Association Chairperson Lai Hsin-yu, inevitably leads to several disputes, including overpriced fruits, long-term occupation of public space by vendors, littering, sanitary quality of street food stalls, and other issues.
These issues, combined with the impact of COVID-19, resulted in a loss of customers and the closure of several stores, resulting in a local commercial slowdown.

The Shilin Night Market Association is working with MAO to execute a set of new initiatives aimed at strengthening vendor management to reverse the trend and bring back customers, according to Deputy Mayor Huang. Land use, environmental hygiene, fire safety, and organizational structure are all covered by the measures.
To ensure environmental cleanliness, the organization made improvements such as upgrading public garbage cans and improving food stall ventilation.
The night market association also wants to give away coupons during future promotional campaigns and provide offers during the forthcoming 2022 Taipei Lantern Festival, when visitors flood to the neighborhood, according to Economic Development Commissioner Lin Chung-chieh.
