According to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, although television host Gretchen Ho says that most people have preconceived conceptions of Sulu, she just visited the location and her perceptions have completely changed.

She said, "They weren't used to visitors, and I wasn't used to the sight of youngsters surrounded by troops. As we were on stage waiting to give our remarks, we were welcomed by innocent tiny eyes behind hijabs that stared at us in wonder. In it, there was mutual understanding.
Ho observed news anchor and broadcaster Ed Lingao "unpacking his enormous military bag and pulling out laptops and projectors."
