According to The Straits Times, while air conditioning keeps us comfortable, wild animals have evolved other strategies for surviving in hot climates. The Straits Times listed few animals and explained how they cope with high temperatures.
Squirrels
Have you ever seen a squirrel lying on a tree? Don’t worry, the animal is simply dumping heat to stay cool. Marcus Chua, a mammal specialist at the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum of the National University of Singapore, told The Straits Times that some mammals adopt these positions to increase the surface area of their bodies on a cool surface and dissipate heat more effectively.
Dogs
Because particular animals can't sweat sufficiently to dissipate heat, unlike humans, some mammals must keep cool via panting and salivation.
According to Mr. Chua, this boosts airflow into the respiratory system and aids in cooling the animals' bodies, but it is a water- and energy-intensive approach.
