COVID-19 Local Cases Surge +328! CDC Announces "Entering Epidemic Phase"

The CDC reports that last week (June 4 to June 10), there were 328 new confirmed local COVID-19 cases (with complications), an increase from the previous week (May 28 to June 3) which had 263 cases. Among these, individuals aged 65 and older accounted for 79% of the cumulative cases with complications. Additionally, there were 20 new deaths last week, down from 26 the week before.

CDC monitoring data shows that in the past four weeks, both local and imported cases detected the JN.1 variant the most, accounting for 64% and 59% respectively, with a recent slight decline. The proportions of KP.2 and KP.3 variants have slightly increased, with KP.2 accounting for 10% and 22% respectively, and KP.3 accounting for 9%. The CDC continues to monitor the trends of variant prevalence.

The CDC assesses that the epidemic is rising and has entered the epidemic phase. It reminds the public that if they experience COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, or sore throat, they should use a home rapid test kit first and report the results when seeking medical care.
