“Philippines is PHun(fun)” of Kaohsiung Public Library's Zihguan Branch Introduces Culture in New Immigrants’ Hometown

Kaohsiung Public Library's Zihguan branch currently held the Southeast Asian cultural event "Philippines is PHun(fun)." The board game professional lecturer Hsu, Ya-Ping was invited to introduce the popular board game. Through course design, The Philippines was themed as the country to introduce Southeast Asian culture in the board game, which allows youngsters to understand multiculturalism, and improve learning effectiveness.

Fifth graders in elementary school are the target audience for the activity. Learning is made exciting through edutainment and board games. For everyone to make their own cards, lecturer Hsu, Ya-Ping uses her ingenuity to develop and produce the cards. It is now easy for youngsters to comprehend and absorb history and current events in the Philippines.

Wu, Li-Siang, the head of the Zihguan branch of the Kaohsiung Public Library, claims that the Philippines has a long history of colonialism, making it unique among Southeast Asian nations in terms of its Western culture. Due to the epidemic, board games have gained popularity. The youngsters were given a cultural tour without having to fly abroad, thanks to the intriguing board game cards created by lecturer Hsu and the slides that introduced Southeast Asian culture and Philippine tourist destinations.

The Kaohsiung Public Library's Zihguan branch continuously Southeast Asian culture reading promotion activities, allowing students to experience the fun in Southeast Asian culture, embrace each other's cultural differences, gradually understand the multiculturalism through reading.
