The new coronavirus variant Omicron has resulted in a sudden surge in Covid-19 cases in Taiwan. To increase the vaccination rate in Taiwan and protect the local community, the Keelung City Brigade of National Immigration Agency (NIA), Service Center, Health Bureau, and non-governmental organization (NGOs) set up a vaccination site for foreign nationals at the Keelung Municipal Hospital (基隆市立醫院).

National Immigration Agency (NIA) has been promoting the “Carefree Covid-19 Vaccination Program” to encourage foreign nationals, including undocumented migrant workers and overstayers to receive free vaccination. The program adopts four principles, “won’t be reported”, “won’t be seized”, “won’t be charged for any fee”, “won’t be banned” and it will last until January 31, 2022.
Gradually gaining the trust of the migrant workers, the effectiveness of the program can be seen with the increasing number of people getting vaccinated. The Keelung City Brigade collaborated with Health Bureau to provide vaccination services for foreigners who need to get the first and second jabs.

Wu Jun Cheng (吳鈞城), the commander of the Keelung City Brigade, stated that the “Carefree Covid-19 Vaccination Program” enables foreign nationals to receive vaccination with peace of mind. It is hoped that the new immigrants and migrant workers residing in Keelung would be able to get vaccinated and feel the warmth & kindness of Taiwan. Moreover, to have a good time during the Chinese New Year with good health and happiness.
