The Vietnamese couple Min and Qin (金金與阿明) have resided in Taiwan for more than ten years, and they have launched a YouTube channel named ‘MinQin in Taiwan’ since 2020 which has exceeded the total views of two million. In this episode of ‘New Immigrants in Taiwan’ column, the content is different from the previous episode. This time, Qin invited Tracy, a Vietnamese overseas Chinese who has also stayed in Taiwan for more than ten years, to share about her intention to travel to Taiwan, and also about her impression and life in Taiwan.

The reason why Tracy came to Taiwan was partly because of a Taiwanese teacher she met in Vietnam while studying in senior high school. Back then, the teacher suggested that she could study at a university in Taiwan, and thus sow the seeds of her connection with Taiwan for more than ten years.
Tracy's parents are Cantonese, and they speak Cantonese at home so that she’s quite familiar with Mandarin Chinese. Her first exposure to Chinese was reading novels, watching dramas & variety shows in junior high schools. In addition, she would sharpen her Chinese language skills with the help of tuition.
To her, she could adjust well in Taiwan but the only thing she was unaccustomed to is that the breakfast stores only open in the morning in Taiwan which is different from that of Vietnam.

Although the opening hours of the breakfast stores bother Tracy, she is still in love with toasts from breakfast stores. “I like toasts because of the variety of flavor combinations,” Qin says with a smile. “Tracy comes here for Taiwan’s breakfast.”
Not only did the delicious toasts make Tracy stay in Taiwan, but she was also touched by the kindness of the Taiwanese as she found her lost wallet within an hour on the day before she flew back to Vietnam. “The most beautiful scenery in Taiwan is really the people and I wish to reside in Taiwan one day,” Qin says.
