Over 500 news agencies from over 57 countries were invited by the Department of Information of the New Taipei City Government to attend the "2023 World News Media Congress," which is being organized by "The World Association of News Publishers, WAN-IFRA." Additionally, the organizer has prepared a schedule for foreign journalists to visit Taiwan, including Pingxi and Shifen. With the help of this journey, it is hoped to promote Taiwanese culture across the world through the influence of the media.

According to the head of the Department of Information of the New Taipei City Government, this visit has drawn journalists from more than 20 different nations, including those from CNN, Reuters, the World Association of Newspapers, WAN and other well-known international news agencies. The friendly trail at Shifen Waterfall, the only coal mine train still in use in Taiwan, and the iconic Pingxi Sky Lantern were all highly praised by the foreign journalists.

Many foreign journalists wrote their wishes for "world peace" and "press freedom" on the sky lanterns at Shifen Old Street. Through this rich cultural experience, the Department of Information of the New Taipei City Government also intends to convey Taiwan's regional features to the rest of the globe.
