An immigrant from the United Kingdom, Allan, is running a YouTube channel named “lifeintaiwan” which reaches more than 20 million views, sharing everything interesting he has observed in Taiwan.

When he first arrived in Taiwan, he worked as an English teacher and now he is a full-time YouTuber. Allan is not like a student or tourist who only stays in Taiwan for a short time, he has been living in Taiwan for 14 years and has obtained a permanent residence. Now, he is a real “Taiwanese” as he rides motorbikes everywhere, and this habit is no different from that of Taiwanese.

In this episode of the “New Immigrants in Taiwan” column, Allan followed Taichung MRT and showed the audience how easily accessible and convenient it is to travel and find delicious food in Taichung.

“As soon as you walk out of the MRT station, you can find many traditional food stalls in Taichung, it’s really convenient!” In the morning, Allan visited the “Wurih Traditional Flavor Breakfast Store” and ordered scallion oil pancake and the great breakfast accompaniment drink – soya milk.

“OMG The saltiness of the pancake with the sweetness of the soy milk is a really good combination,” Allan said with a thumbs up.

Later, Allan traveled to the “Pearl Dumplings” nearby the “Wenxin Forest Park Station”. He ordered an incredibly winter-warming dish “Hot, sour, spicy soup with dumplings”. While stirring the steaming bowl of soup, one can see the mix of ingredients inside the gelatinous soup such as fungus, tofu, beansprouts, spring onions, dumplings, etc.

“If you want to warm yourself in winter, I definitely recommend this restaurant to you,” he said.

Allan then took MRT to “Wenxin Zhongqing Station”, once he walked on the Beiping road, he found dozens to hundreds of restaurants there. He stopped by a traditional Taiwanese dessert store and tried douhua & grass jelly. Allan savored the dessert and said, “It’s kind of like jelly & custard.”

Lastly, Allan went to the northern end of the MRT line – the Jiushe station. He found the reviews for the ChaoZhouLin Beef were exemplary, so he decided to give it a try. Sitting and eating outside the MRT station because there was no dine-in offered, he tasted the flavor of the stir-fried beef with peppers and vegetables.

“Wow, absolutely delicious, and a little spicier than I was expecting.” Although he could not enjoy the meal while immersing in the atmosphere of the restaurant, he was still satisfied with the dish and this food journey.
