Ku is running a YouTube Channel “Ku's dream酷的夢” that shares cultural differences between Taiwan and France. Now, the number of subscribers of the channel has exceeded more than one million.
In this episode of the “New Immigrants in Taiwan” column, Ku brought his Dutch friend – Tim to try a traditional Taiwanese breakfast.

“This place is like a night market, only foodies know here.” Early in the morning, Ku served as a tour guide and strolled along the alley with Tim. The two then arrived at the Dadaocheng Cisheng Temple (大稻埕慈聖宮) which is hailed as a paradise for traditional dishes.
There are around 20 vendors, including fried noodles, braised pork rice, pork rib soup, and stir-fried dishes. Right in front of the temple, some regular customers were sitting at the table and waiting for their first meal of the day.

“Are we going to eat inside the temple?” Tim said surprisingly. When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Therefore, they took a seat and immerse themselves in the ambiance of a religious site, enjoying tweets and diners’ chit-chat. “This is the most special breakfast that I have ever had in Taipei.”
Once the food was served, Tim was shocked again as the portion and food choices were more like dinner for him. Ku then explained that “Taiwan was an agricultural society before, and farmers have to take food that gives them a lot of energy.”

Out of all dishes, Tim chose porridge to start his day. “It’s healthy and good for digestion,” he nodded his head while savoring this local cuisine.

Later, Tim tried crispy fried pork together with a sweet & sour sauce. “The meat is well-cooked, it’s so delicious!” What surprised him more is the fish that was marinated in rice alcohol, as well as the fried oysters. Both provided him with a new experience in food taste.
“It’s only NT 280 dollars, less expensive than two cups of Starbucks.” The great vibes and affordable cuisines in Dadaocheng Cisheng Temple attract both foreign and Taiwanese tourists. Tim was able to taste traditional foods and admire the scenery of Taipei.
