[Taiwan Immigrants’ Global News Network] On the seventh day of the Lunar New Year, according to a saying in Chinese folklore, the first to sixth day of the lunar new year is for all kinds of animals to celebrate the new year, and the seventh day is for human to celebrate the new year. Thus, the seventh day of new year also known as "Human’s Day" or “Rensheng Day(人勝節)”. Legend has it that at the beginning of the creation of the world, humans were created on the seventh day after creating animals. The following sorts out the customs and taboos on the seventh day of new year.

 

  • Customs on the seventh day of new year

1, Wearing Rensheng

Rensheng is a kind of head piece. Ancient women used to cut it into the shapes with colored paper, silk, soft gold and silver, etc., and wear it on their heads, and stick it on and windows with meaning of celebration.

2, Eating Seven Treasure Soup

On the seventh day of the first lunar month, eating Seven Treasure soup is a custom. Seven Treasure soup is a soup made of seven kinds of vegetables. Eating Qibao soup has the meaning of driving evil spirits away and healing all diseases.

3, Eating noodles

In the early days, people in many places still had the custom of eating noodles on this day, eating noodles means longevity.

 

  • Taboos on the seventh day of new year

1, Quarrel

On the aspect of folklore, quarreling in the first lunar month will bring bad fortunate throughout the whole year, and cursing will also bring disasters.

2, Visit and greet for Lunar New Year to those who just lose someone

The most forbidden action during the first month of lunar new year is visit and greet for Lunar New Year to those who just lose someone in the family. Try to avoid visiting them in the first month. Or stand outside the door to chat if needed.

3, Encounter funerary affairs

In some local customs, funerals and burials are avoided in the first month of lunat new year. If one encounter it, it means unlucky, and disaster will come to this person in following year.

4, Change or wash bed sheet and go on a long journey

The seventh day of the lunar month is also "Seven Evil Days". Many things should not be avoided on this day. According to the old custom, changing or washing bed sheet and going on a long journey are considered unlucky
