Since the Covid-19 outbreak, many people are unable to travel abroad for a long time and new residents in Taiwan have not returned home for a long while. Tasting exotic delicacies seem unable to satisfy the public’s desire to travel overseas. Besides eating gourmet meals in restaurants, major supermarket chains and convenience stores have also launched special zones selling Southeast Asian snacks. Even the high-end Japanese department store have opened special Southeast Asian gourmet zones, enabling people who wish to travel abroad soon to get a taste of Southeast Asia at home while watching shows.

This high-end Japanese department store (Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Zhongshan Store) is located in front of Tainan Railway Station. Operating Section Manager He Yi Jing (何怡靜) told 【Taiwan Immigrants' Global News Network】that the area near Tainan Railway Station is frequently visited by migrant workers on weekends and holidays. They like to dine and shop in air-conditioned malls. Up to 20% of the revenue earned of Shin Kong Mitsukoshi (新光三越), Tainan Zhongshan store comes from the consumption of new residents.

Because this shop is the most popular place for new residents, He Yi Jing said that all the counter staff in this store have gone through basic foreign language communication training to serve new residents. Even clerks of fried chicken shops also take initiative to ask new residents if they want to get some rice because this combination is well-favored by new residents.

Following the anniversary promotion, department stores are busy with advertising exquisite goods from Japan, South Korea, Europe and the U.S. However, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi does this in a different way and invites a large Southeast Asian supermarket, Big King, to be part of the shopping mall at the end of October. It also sells the top 6 fruits that Taiwan tourists like to bring home from Southeast Asia countries. Popular snacks such as instant noodles often unboxed by social media influencers are also available here. All the tastes from the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam come together in Big King.

With the spacious rooms, sale events and quintuple stimulus vouchers, the public wishing to travel overseas and new residents not being able to return home can enjoy a wonderful time shopping at this high-class mall.
