Since the global outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF), the National Immigration Agency (NIA) has visited 257 Southeast Asian snack bars and grocery stores in Taipei City from door to door, reminding them not to purchase meat products from the questionable place of origin.
Su Hui Wen stated that individuals can contact the “Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine, COA, Executive Yuan” directly if they happened to receive packages containing pork products from the unknown origin.
NIA emphasized that the people bringing pork products from ASF-infected zones will be fined up to 1 million New Taiwan dollars. If the individuals are unable to pay, they will be refused to enter Taiwan. If the individuals violate the regulations by sending or purchasing pork products from abroad to Taiwan, one can be sentenced to a maximum of 7-year imprisonment and a fine of 3 million New Taiwan dollars.
In addition, please do not throw meat products in the trash can if you receive such parcels from the unknown place of origin.
